Five Reasons Why I Do Not Celebrate Christmas.

Brethren: I am personally convicted and convinced that the Sons of God,
they who deem to follow the Lord all the way to victory in all things, and
to overcome all things, have no right or reason to celebrate the Christmas Season. My conviction comes after much soul searching and study, as well as by some excellent reading materials on this subject. I wish to list my reasons why the Sons of God should not Celebrate Christmas.

Reason #1: Jesus was not born on December 25. The scriptures say in Luke 2:8 that shepherds were abiding in the field, keeping watch over their flocks by night. December in Israel is winter, cold, no fields for the sheep to eat from. The Song of Solomon 2:11 and Ezra 10:9.13 show that winter in the Palestine area was cold and wet, a rainy season that does not permit outside activities or exposure for that period of time. The date of Christ's birth was unknown, unrecorded and no man knows or can know when he was born. The scriptures no where record the day of His birth, but by what little we do have, we can see that it was probably during the autumn season.

Reason #2: We are committed to come out of form and ceremony, out of tradition and dogma, and to enter into the REALITY that is ours as children of God to posses. The form of day keeping, season keeping and observance of days and occasions was spoken about by the Apostle Paul in Galatians 4:9 - 11. Israel there is filled with feast days, rituals, ceremonies, external observations and regulations, "kept like slaves under the rules of Hebrew ritual", {Amplified Bible} . No where, absolutely no where in scripture does God command us to keep or commemorate Christ"s birth. There is not one word in the New Testament, nor in the Old Testament under the Law that had us to observe the birth of the coming Messiah, there is no AUTHORITY FROM THE WORD that teaches us to do so. Let us hear Paul again in Galatians 4:9 - 11 amplified. "Now however that you have come to be acquainted with and understand and know the true God, or rather to be understood and known by God, how can you turn back again to the weak and beggarly and worthless elementary things whose slaves you once more want to become? YOU OBSERVE {particular} DAYS, AND MONTHS, AND SEASONS AND YEARS! I am alarmed about you lest I have labored among and over you in vain." We have heard the voice of the spirit of God call us to full sonship, to full hope of our manifestation to this sick and dying world, why then is there the desire to dabble in Babylon's religious holidays? If any effort is made in our faith to observe anything in the way of worship to God outside the express conduct given us in His Word, then all such effort is vain, bears no fruit and has no weight in the plan or purpose of God for His children, or for their overcoming. Neither has there been any prophetic word or teaching from His Holy Spirit, nor from the voice of God out of any true prophet of the Lord telling us to observe any "special" day. As God's children, we look for the reality of Christ to permeate us every moment, of every day, in every year. That His life may be exemplified through us at all times, and in all seasons, and by all the Power and Witness of the Holy Ghost within His Holy Church.

Reason #3: Christmas is a heathen celebration, not a Christian observance or command. Even in the early church, the observance of December 25th as Christian was never done. To find the origin of Christmas, one must look in the library at several encyclopedia references to its origin, and to find that it indeed originated in ancient "Babylon" with all the slime of the valley of Shinar. A festival of idolatry, worshipped for centuries before Christ with all its observances and feasts to SUN gods and men of renown.

I quote from Ralph Woodrow's book, BABYLON MYSTERY RELIGION. "Instead of this day {December 25} being the time of our Savior's birth, it was the very day and season on which the pagans for centuries had celebrated the birth of the Sun god ! December 25th was the day of the old Roman feast of the birth of Sol - one of the names of the sun-god. In pagan days, this birth of the sun-god was especially popular among that branch of the "mysteries" known as Mithraism. Concerning this we read: The largest pagan religious cult which fostered the celebration of December 25th as a holiday throughout the Roman and Greek worlds was the pagan sun worship - Mithraism. This winter festival was called THE NATIVITY - the nativity of the SUN.' And not only was Mithra, the son-god of Mithraism, said to be born at this time of year, but Osiris, Horus, Hercules, Bacchus, Adonis, Jupiter, Tammuz, and other son - gods were also supposedly born at what is today called the Christmas' season - the winter Solstice! Says a noted writer; The winter solstice was the time at which all the sun gods from Osiris to Jupiter and Mithra had celebrated their birthdays, the celebration being adorned with the pine tree of Adonis, the holly of Saturn, and the mistletoe,,,tapers represented the kindling of the newborn sun-god's fire.' Now the fact that various sun gods were worshipped in different countries were all believed to have been born at the same season {in the old fables} , would seem to indicate that they were but different forms {under different names} of the ORIGINAL SON OF THE SUN-GOD, TAMMUZ, OF BABYLON, THE LAND FROM WHICH SUN WORSHIP ORIGINALLY SPREAD. In Babylon, the birthday of Tammuz was celebrated at the time of the winter solstice with great feasts, revelry, and drunkenness - the same way many celebrate today! The ancient celebration spread and became so much an established custom that in pagan Rome and Greece, in the days of the Teutonic barbarians, in the remote times of ancient Egyptian civilization, in the infancy of the race, the period of the winter solstice was ever a period of rejoicing and festivity. When this mid winter solstice came to Rome, it was known as the Saturnalia - Saturn being but another name of Nimrod or Tammuz as the hidden god'. A study into this shows how far apostate Church leaders went in their effort to merge Christianity and paganism into one apostate religion - even to placing the birth of Christ on a date to harmonize with the pagan birthday of the SUN - GOD!". The Roman Catholic Encyclopedia states:"Christmas was not among the earliest festivals of the Church,,,,,the first evidence of the feast is from Egypt. Pagan customs centering around the January calendar gravitated to Christmas"..

The ENCYCLOPEDIA AMERICANA, 1969 edition says: "Christmas. The name derives from the Old English Chrutes Maesse, of Christ's Mass, and the present spelling probably came into use about the sixteenth century. All Christian churches except the Armenian church observe the birth of Christ on December 25. This date was not set in the West until about the middle of the fourth century and in the East until about a century later. The reason for establishing December 25 as Christmas is somewhat obscure, but it is usually held that the day was chosen to correspond to pagan festivals that took place around the time of the winter solstice, when the days began to lengthen, to celebrate the "rebirth of the sun". Northern European tribes celebrated their chief festival of Yule at the winter solstice to celebrate the rebirth of the son god as a giver of light and warmth. The Roman Saturnalia {a festival dedicated to Saturn, the god of agriculture, and to the renewed power of the sun} also took place at this time, and some Christian customs are thought to be rooted in this ancient pagan celebration. It is held by some scholars that the birth of Christ as The Light of the World' was made analogous to the rebirth of the sun in order to make Christianity more meaningful to pagan converts. Many early Christians decried the gaiety and festive spirit introduced into the Christmas celebration as a Pagan survival, particularly of Roman Saturnalia."

Collier's Encyclopedia 1957 edition states: "It is impossible to determine the exact date of the birth of Christ, either from the evidence of the gospels, or from any sound tradition. During the first three centuries of the Christian Era there was considerable opposition in the Church to the pagan custom of celebrating birthdays, although there is some indication that a purely religious commemoration of the birth of Christ was included in the feast of the Epiphany. Clement of Alexandria mentions the existence of the feast in Egypt about the year A.D.200, and we have some evidence that it was observed on various dates in scattered areas. After the triumph of Constantine, the Church at Rome assigned December 25 as the date for the celebration of the feast, possibly about AD 320 or 353. By the end of the fourth century the whole Christian world was celebrating Christmas on that day with the exception of the Eastern churches where it was celebrated on December 6. The choice of December 25 was probably influenced by the fact that on this day the Romans celebrated the Mithraic feast of the sun god {natalis solis, inviciti} , and that the Saturnalia also came at this time. The indications are that the Church in this way grasped the opportunity to turn the people away from a purely pagan observance of the winter solstice to a day of adoration of Christ the Lord. Both St. Cyprian and St. John Chrysostom allude to this thought in their writings. In Northern Europe, too, the Tectonic tribes celebrated the winter solstice and had developed many customs and traditions that became part of the feasts of Christmas when they were converted to Christianity. Thus, during the Middle Ages the festival became the most popular one of the year, celebrated in church and in the home with a blend of pagan usage's and Christian devotion. The suppression of the Mass during the Reformation led to a sharp change in the observance of Christmas in some countries. In England, the Puritans condemned the celebration and, from 1642 to 1652, issued a series of ordinances forbidding all church services and festivities. This feeling was carried over to America by the Pilgrims and it was not until the nineteenth-century wave of Irish and German immigration that enthusiasm for the feast began to spread throughout the country. Objections were swept aside and the old traditions revived among Protestants as well as Catholics."

The same spirits that brought this apostasy then, are working now, in an even greater measure. One must look hard at this and decide what they will do before the Lord, and how they will react to this season. Let us look a little deeper at some of the symbols of Christmas, and see that they are indeed an affront to the Lord Himself. The Encyclopedia Britannica states that the evergreen was a symbol of survival. The Romans exchanged gifts and had merry making to celebrate the rebirth of the unconquered sun god. Yuletide brought its own traditions of merry making and mortuary customs..."special food and good fellowship, the Yule log and Yule cakes, greenery and fir trees, wassailing, gifts and greetings; ALL commemorated different aspects of the festive season," ,,,and the dedicated fir tree {aptly decorated} to the Holy Child {Christ} to replace the sacred oak of Odin". The pagans used mistletoe during the winter solstice because it was a sacred symbol to the SUN, because of its many powers of spirit. Kissing under the mistletoe represented the coming debauchery and revelings that accompanied extravagant feasts, all to celebrate the death of the Old sun and the birth of the New sun at the winter solstice.

In the book Answers to Questions, by Frederick J. Haskins, found in your library, he stated: "The use of Christmas wreaths is believed by authorities to be traceable to the pagan customs of decorating buildings and places of worship at the feast which took place at the same time as Christmas. The Christmas tree is from Egypt, and its origin dates from a period long anterior to the Christian Era,". The bible is not silent about
decking out Christmas trees. "Hear ye the word which the Lord speaketh unto you, O house of Israel: Thus saith the Lord, Learn not the way of the heathen, and be not dismayed at the signs of the heaven; for the heathen are dismayed at them. For the customs of the people are vain: for one cutteth a tree out of the forest, the work of the hands of the workman, with the axe. They deck it with silver and with gold; they fasten it with nails and with hammers, that it move not. They are upright as the palm tree, but speak not; they must needs be borne, because they cannot go. Be not afraid {do not fear reverence} of them:. Jeremiah 10:1-5. I quote from the excellent work on this subject by J. Preston Eby. Quote: "An old Babylonish fable went like this: Semiramis, Queen of Heaven, the wife of Nimrod, worshipped as the embodiment of the Sun god, and mother of Tammuz, the son of the Sun-god, claimed that overnight, on the night of the birth of Tammuz, an evergreen tree sprang up from a dead tree stump. The stump supposedly symbolized her dead husband Nimrod; the new evergreen tree was the symbol that Nimrod had come to life again in the person of Tammuz! {italics mine} . This idea spread and developed so that the various nations all have had their legends about sacred trees! Among the Druids, the oak was sacred; among the Egyptians, it was the palm; and in Rome, it was the fir, which was decorated with red berries during the Saturnalia! Among the Scandinavians, the fir tree was sacred to their god Odin. The Scandinavian god Woden or Odin was believed to bestow special gifts at Yuletide to those who honored him by approaching his sacred FIR TREE." Look in the scriptures at the abominations shown to Ezekiel. "He said also unto me, Turn thee yet again, and thou shalt see greater abominations that they do. Then he brought me to the door of the gate of the LORD'S house which was toward the north; and, behold, there sat women weeping for Tammuz. Then said he unto me, Hast thou seen this, O son of man? turn thee yet again, and thou shalt see greater abominations than these." Ezekeil 8: 13-15.
The women of Israel, weeping for a false God? When in fact they belonged to the true God? Dear reader, what if the Lord should place His finger on the love of Christmas in your life? Would you weep for the loss of it? How did the pagan celebration of the sun god get into Christianity?

The Schaff - Herzog Encyclopedia clearly explains how this happened. "The pagan Saturnalia and Brumalia were too deeply entrenched in popular custom to be set aside by Christian influence,,,, the pagan festival with its riot and merry-making was so popular that Christians were glad of an excuse to continue its celebration with little change in spirit or manner. Christian preachers of the west and the near east protested against the unseemly fivrolity with which Christ's birthday was celebrated, while Christians of Mesopotamia accused their western brethren of idolatry and sun worship for adopting as Christian this pagan festival." Asking my self this question, and now asking the readers of this paper, why would we do anything that does not glorify our Lord Jesus Christ? Why would we observe that which the scriptures say we are not to? And why would we put ourselves in the position of bearing no fruit in our faith for something as vain as this? I pray God all we do, gives Glory to His Holy Name.

REASON #4: God Himself has commanded us to not do as the heathen do, or to be as the ungodly around us, or to follow the traditions of men that have no blessing from the Lord upon it. "Speak unto the children of Israel, and say unto them, I am the Lord your God. After the doings of the land of Egypt, wherein ye dwelt, shall ye not do; and after the doings of the land of Canaan, wither I bring you, shall ye not do; neither shall ye walk in their ordinances. Ye shall do My judgments, and keep my statutes to walk therein: I am the Lord your God." Leviticus 18:2 - 4. "When the Lord thy God shall cut off the nations from before thee, whither thou goest to posses them, and thou succeedest them, and dwellest in their land; take heed to thyself that thou be not snared by following them, after that they be destroyed from before thee: and that thou enquire not after their gods, saying, how do these nations serve their gods? even so will I do likewise. Thou shalt not do so unto the Lord thy God; for every abomination to the Lord, which He hateth, have they done unto their gods...what thing soever I command you, observe to do it; thou shalt not add thereto, nor diminish from it." Deuteronomy 8:18-20. What has the christian world done? they have followed this cunningly devised fable to a T. It amazes me how Christianity states they love and serve the Lord, and yet follow this which has no life, no merit and no glory. Let alone the ability to save anyone, or to cheer up a person with everlasting joy. Or to make a person strong in the armor of the spirit and in faith to stand the tests and the places wherein the Lord would ask us to overcome. Nothing in this season is able to contribute to our overcoming victory. This is not a light thing with God. God rent away Israel from being the glory of God in the earth, all because they did not obey the above scriptures. God rent away the kingdom from Solomon {1Kings 11:4-11} and many were warned in the new testament church because of pagan tradition. "And what agreement hath the temple of God with idols? For ye are the temple of the living God; as God hath said said, I will dwell in them, and walk in them; and I will be their God and they shall be My people. Wherefore come out from among them, and be ye separate, saith the Lord, and touch not the unclean thing; and I will receive you, and will be a Father unto you, and ye shall be My sons and daughters, saith the Lord Almighty. Having therefore these promises, dearly beloved, let us cleanse ourselves from all filthiness of the flesh and spirit, perfecting holiness in the fear of God" 1Corinthians 6:16-18, 7:1. May God help us to obey His Word, for it is Truth, and the way to overcome.

REASON #5: God is removing from His children in this hour every taint and stain of Babylon. And the Christmas theme adopted far and wide is a LIE, promoted by another spirit, not the Holy Spirit. The entire story of Christmas, even when relegated to the story of the birth and infancy of Christ Himself, is told to countless people, and all that is said is unscriptural, untrue, and is designed by the angel of light to deceive and possess people into a pleasurable slumber. It is far far removed from Christ's command to "watch and pray" Matthew 26:41, lest we fall into temptation. Christmas is painted to the masses as a magical time, full of sparkles and delights from God to us for free, and is commonly accepted as necessary to our modern society. But what says the Word of God? For instance, the three Wise Men are seen often in Nativity scenes and in cards etc, as offering their gifts to the infant Christ child. If you read of the words of the prophet Simeon {Luke 2:25} you will note that just previous, Mary came to present the Christ child before the Lord in the temple after her purification according to Mosaic Law. THERE WERE FORTY DAYS REQUIRED BY MOSES LAW FOR A WOMAN TO PRESENT HERSELF PURIFIED BEFORE THE LORD AFTER THE BIRTH OF A MALE CHILD. No where does the bible say the wise men went to Bethlehem, but the Word of God does say "When they had heard the king {Herod} , they departed; and LO, the star, which they saw in the east, went before them till it came and stood over where the young child was. When they saw the star, they rejoiced with exceeding joy. And when they were come into the HOUSE, they saw the young child with Mary His mother, and fell down and worshipped Him" Matthew 2:9-11. No where does the word of God say that the shepherds abiding in the field saw a star!! There is also no indication or scripture to support the coming of the Maji on the night of His birth, but rather as the above verse indicates, Christ is already a child when they came. The whole emphasis of Christmas is commercialism, selling, buying, giving of gifts. Where did the gifts of the Maji go? They presented their gifts to Christ Himself. Today, we give gifts, billions of dollars worth, to each other, not to Christ, and not to the furtherance of His purposes either, but to indulge in fleshly greed. The Lord is not in that in any way.

CONCLUSION: We live in the midst of the Laeodicean church, the church full, and rich and increased with goods and has need of nothing. "And unto the angel of the church of the Laodiceans write; These things saith the Amen, the faithful and true witness, the beginning of the creation of God; I know thy works, that thou art neither cold nor hot: I would thou wert cold or hot. So then because thou art lukewarm, and neither cold nor hot, I will spue thee out of my mouth. Because thou sayest, I am rich, and increased with goods, and have need of nothing; and knowest not that thou art wretched, and miserable, and poor, and blind, and naked: I counsel thee to buy of me gold tried in the fire, that thou mayest be rich; and white raiment, that thou mayest be clothed, and that the shame of thy nakedness do not appear; and anoint thine eyes with eyesalve, that thou mayest see. As many as I love, I rebuke and chasten: be zealous therefore, and repent. Behold, I stand at the door, and knock: if any man hear my voice, and open the door, I will come in to him, and will sup with him, and he with me. To him that overcometh will I grant to sit with me in my throne, even as I also overcame, and am set down with my Father in his throne. He that hath an ear, let him hear what the Spirit saith unto the churches." Revelation 3:14-22

It is most probable that the Lord will require us as His children, called to inherit this throne with the Living Christ, to overcome each and every vestage of the Laodiceans. Christmas is just one of the many things that the Sons and Daughters of God will have to overcome. My purpose in writing this paper was to respond to a tug on my heart, and with the memory of our family overcoming this as well. Do we wish to overcome? Do we want to PLEASE THE LORD in all things? Are we not called to come out and be separate? I urge you dear reader to lay this paper out before the Lord, and ask of Him, ask Him whether or not these things are so, and if it would please the Father to have your life separated from it. May the Lord Bless you as you seek to follow Him.. all the way.. to His Glory and Throne.
